Vallejo AFV Paint Set for UK Bronze Green
SET #: 78.407
PRICE: $17.95 plus s&h
REVIEWER: Scott Van Aken
NOTES: Six three ounce bottles plus instructions

AI was hunting for a proper green for British armor to use in a project. I got all sorts of info; all of it a bit different. One recommended this set so I thought I'd give it a go. I honestly did not read up on it, but knew it would acrylic paint.

Once I got it, I found it came in a hanging package with a plastic tray containing six, rather small 3 ounce bottles. I had hoped for full size ones, but then realized they were only asking $18 for it so that comes to $3 a bottle or $1 an ounce.

There is a bottle of primer, four bottles of green of varying shades, and a bottle of satin clear. There is also a Vallejo paint chart for its various major lines of paint.

According to the six construction steps (one for each color and nicely illustrated with photos of a paint job by someone who not only builds a lot of armor but uses Vallejo paints all the time), you first primer it, then apply the darkest green to the underside and the panel lines of the upper surfaces. Then you take the next color and fill in the upper surface areas. The fourth color is a highlight for the various panels and the lightest shade is used over the panel lines again. Then you apply the satin clear.

They do other sets, most of them for various German shades and I guess if you have no Vallejo paints then this might well be a good way to get into using them. I'm building something British and will give it a go.
