Notes:

Here is the second volume of Aces High magazine. I was impressed by its initial issue and equally so with the second one. It seems that Aces High will be devoting each issue to a specific theme and I think that is a great way to do a magazine. This edition concentrates on World War I.

The magazine is 72 pages (including covers) of full color glossy paper in an A4 format. This edition has five major articles, with two of them taking up about half the magazine. What that means is that you get a lot of in progress photos that help to show just how performing a specific task will provide the result that is seen in the final model.

To me, this sort of thing is very useful for those of us with lesser skills. It shows what can be done and allows us to stretch our skills to give new features a try. One line in one of the articles that made me smile was when the author called dry brushing an 'old but still effective technique'. Talk about making me feel old.

Getting to the articles themselves is will surprise no one that the three 1/32 builds are all Wingnut Wings kits. Of course, the builders don't just build them out of the box, but embellish each one of them to the point of where they look very realistic. The three 1/32 kits covered are the DH.2, Sopwith Pup, and Hannover CL.II.

There are two 1/48 kits, both of which are Eduard products. We have the Fokker Dr.I and a Neiuport 23. All of these models are done to contest winning quality and I picked up something neat from each of them. If you are a fan for very nicely done kits and want to learn a bit in the process. I can highly recommend this new magazine to you. If your local retailer does not stock them ask them to do so or get yours from the link below.
