Kagero tackles JG 2 'Richthofen' in its Units series. This is one of the Luftwaffe's oldest units starting in 1934 as a 'publicity' squadron. Initially outfitted with the He-46, it quickly moved to the He-51 and was the first unit to get the then new Bf-109B fighter. During this time it was redesignated several times, starting as JG 132 then JG 131 before becoming JG 2 just before the start of the war.

JG 2 spent just about its entire career in Western Europe, mostly in France, on defense duties. Sections of the wing were sent to North Africa in late 1942 and to Italy in 1944 to help in the Anzio fighting. They were one of the first units to take on USAAF B-17s and spent the remainder of the war fighting against heavy bombers. They were among the first users of the FW-190A and the FW-190D, an aircraft on which much of the wing ended the war.

The book is as much a photo book as it is a brief history of the unit. There are a goodly number of superb period photos, many of them quite large. In addition to the unit history and images, there are full color profiles of four different aircraft as well as Cartograf decals for the unique markings of these four aircraft in the three major scales.

- Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-4; W.Nr. 5159, 'White 9', flown by Oblt. Hermann Reifferscheidt, Kapitän of 1./JG 2, Beaumont-le-Roger airfield, France, October 1940,
- Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-2/B; 'Yellow 3', flown by Uffz. Richard Übelbacher of 6.(Jabo)/JG 2, Abbeville-Drucat airfield, France, summer 1941,
- Focke-Wulf Fw 190 A-2; W.Nr. 0120 333, 'White 8', flown by Lt. Jakob Augustin of 7./JG 2, Théville airfield, France, early June 1942,
- Focke-Wulf Fw 190 D-9; W.Nr. 400 271, 'Black 4' of 10./JG 2, Großostheim airfield, Germany, spring 1945.

The decals are in all three of the major scales and there is color information provided for all of the aircraft. You'll notice that none of these are of particularly famous aces, which makes them that much more desirable to those who tire of seeing the same subjects done over and over again by decal companies.

In all, it is an excellent book and having the decals only increases its value to the buyer.
