Most modelers and aviation enthusiasts rarely think about the weapons that warplanes carry. But if you think about it, for many types of aircraft, were it not for the weaponry, there would be no reason for the aircraft itself.

This book covers the nearly bewildering array of bombs and other types of dropped stores carried by German aircraft from the inception of aerial bombs until the end of WWII. This includes those used during WWI and developed during the inter-war period. In addition to bombs there are special containers as well as those early guided munitions that were used by the Luftwaffe.

The author has divided the book into three basic areas. One is a section that goes into the development and use of these weapons. It is more of a chronological story of the various types of bombs and canisters and how they were used. Then there is a comprehensive illustrated listing of over 100 different bombs, 22 canisters and 50 different bomb fuses. This is followed by an appendix that contains information on the materials that went into the various bombs.

Overall, it makes for some really fascinating reading into an area that few of us really think about. This book will appeal to both the enthusiast and hobbyist alike.
