This latest book by Soviet/Russian aircraft expert Yeflim Gordon covers the wide variety of air launched/dropped weapons developed since the end of WWII.

It begins with a commentary on the development of Soviet versions of the V-1 'Buzz Bomb', as it was this weapon that gave the Soviets the background needed in the development of air launched missiles while developing the twin engine 16Kh cruise missile.

The next section covers the development of air to air missiles and categorizes them not sequentially, but by the design bureau that developed them. Throughout the book, the Soviet or Russian name is given to these weapons so those looking for 'AA-2 Atoll' will have to know that this Sidewinder look-alike was referred to as the R-3 or K-13 in Soviet circles.

Other sections of the book cover cruise missiles, unguided rockets, and bombs of all sizes and shapes, including guided bombs.

Each of the subjects is covered in considerable depth, providing photos and drawings of each weapon and all of its variants. Most Westerners are confused by the seemingly endless variety of these weapons and the author does a superb job of clarifying each weapon type and how it differs through its various modifications. Information on the various racks and mounts is also provided where it is required. There are several pages of color at the end of the book showing many of these weapons installed on various airframes and it really adds to the rest of the reading.

For those who wish to end their confusion regarding weapons types and uses, as well as those who are interested in the fascinating development of these necessities of modern air warfare, then this is a book I can most highly recommend.
