Caracal Models CD 48143: F-105F/G Wild Weasel

Units: See review

Scott Van Aken

It has been a while since we've had a new F-105 sheet produced and this nice one from Caracal Models concentrates on the F-105F/G Wild Weasel. We are fortunate that this variant has been kitted by both Monogram and Hobby Boss so finding one won't be difficult. The majority of these planes were painted in the standard SEA camouflage with those surviving to serve in the ANG getting the wraparound version of this scheme.

There are ten options on this sheet and I'm surprised that many of the units are unidentified. I'm not sure if that is a lack of references or a rush to get the sheet printed, but there it is. I also know that the single seat F-105s were not all painted in the same pattern of colors with some of the shades being swapped around. Not sure if that was the case with the two seaters, so it may be well worth the trouble of finding a photo of your chosen subject to see if this was the case.

Here is what is on the sheet:

F-105G 63-8320 "Cooters"

F-105G 63-8305

F-105G 63-8296

EF-105F 62-4428 "Red Ball"

F-105G 62-4434

F-105G 63-8301 "Jinkin' Josie"

F-105G 62-4423, Georgia ANG

F-105G 63-8316, Georgia ANG

F-105G 63-8340

F-105G 63-8362, Virginia ANG

The markings are printed by Cartograf with enough insignia and data markings to do two aircraft. Well worth picking up if you are a fan of the type.
