One of the longest serving F-4 Phantom II squadrons around is JASDF's 301 squadron. First receiving their 'Rhinos' in 1973, they have been flying them ever since. They are currently flying the EJ kai version which has been upgraded and strengthened over the initial deliveries. Just how much longer they will be operational is unknown, but with good maintenance, relatively low flying hours per year and regular overhauls, the Phabulous Phantom could be in Japanese skies for many more years.

This particular sheet commemorates their 40th anniversary and so one plane was painted in a rather striking scheme over dark blue. The lighter colored markings are in gold and the decal sheet duplicates that precisely. Printed by Cartograf, the decals are superb. DXM provides a full color painting and placement guide to go along with this striking scheme. For kits, I believe that the only EJ kai variant kitted in this scale is by Hasegawa.
