NOTES:

1/72 scale

This new sheet from Starfighter Decals covers six late war F4U-1D/FG-1D Corsairs in the overall dark sea blue scheme. All of these have the geometric pattern schemes that were so popular before the code letters entered the scene in the last month of the war. The recommended kit is that by Tamiya, but there are kits of this plane from Hasegawa and others if you choose that route.

Starting with the three shown on the cover art, there is the lone FG-1D from VF-83 aboard the USS Essex in May of 1945. Next is from VMF-112 aboard the USS Bennington in February 1945. The third one is from VBF-85 aboard the USS Shangri-La in April of 1945.

Not shown are a white diamons mark with VF-5 aboard the USS Franklin in 1945, A white angled stripe with VBF-6 aboard the USS Hancock in March of 1945 (this aircraft has a white forward cowling), and finally a horizontal white band with VMF-216 aboard the USS Wasp in February of 1945.

All these options also have their tail markings repeated on the top and bottom of the wings (upper right and lower left. The sheet includes insignia and wing walk markings along with a few data markings for one aircraft. You can glean additional insignia and such from the kit decal sheet if you wish to do others on the sheet. The sheet comes with a full color placement guide and other notes.

Starfighter has plans for other markings so stay tuned.
