One of the
more ubiquitous pieces of GSE (Ground Support Equipment) found at USAF air
fields around the world during the 1950s, was this three wheeled Ground Power
Unit. While most aircraft had internal batteries, they were generally good only
for one or two starting attempts before they were nearly drained. For this
reason, most pilots preferred to use a ground power unit for starts. They are
also vital when it comes to doing maintenance on aircraft when power is needed
for things like hydraulic systems and avionics. The kit comes complete
with well drawn instructions and construction notes.
This neat cart from True Details accurately represents those power units used on US military airfields around the worldI. The parts are very nicely molded and free from glitches. Though the majority of bits and pieces are there, some minor scratchbuilding for a few simple items (like the long power cord) are needed to be done by the builder. The end result will be a nice addition to any 1/32 airfield diorama of the period.
