Hi, I’m Tony Hodun, and this is one of five tables of Hasegawa 1/48 kit listings I’ve developed to aid you as a modeler or collector in finding the right kit to build the version you want, to fill the gaps in your collection, or to find the parts you need. This page covers German and Italian WW II Aircraft. See the U.S./British WW II Aircraft Page for a more complete explanation of these tables. If you’ve got useful input, please contact me directly at hodunmisinec@cinci.rr.com , I’ll reply as soon as I am able. Enjoy, and happy modeling/collecting!
Hasegawa covers a growing number of German WW II aircraft types in 1/48, and they typically do a full series of variants of each aircraft type. All are modern sets of tooling with engraved panel lines and nice detail; even the four early tooled Bf109Es are good builders.
My thanks to Juan Carlos Barrios, Jim Bonanni, Thomas Brown, Mike Franklin, Fred Hocker, Rick Kern, Greg Lamb, Klaus Meyer, Bob Rockwell, Rafael Rodriguez, Frank Tauss, Mike Vorrasi, and Woody Yeung for their input!
Parts Tree Labeling Notes:
A – Hasegawa uses capital letter to designate each different tree, always molded on a tab on the tree and noted on the instructions, except for a few of the earliest kits.
b – Hasegawa uses a subletter to designate similar trees that can be produced in two or more variations using inserts (e.g. the Bf109G/Ks are unique, each fuselage half has a subletter tab). The subletter is always molded on a tab on the tree, but may or may not be noted in the instructions.
A* - occasionally Hasegawa reuses a letter for two or more different parts trees in the same kit family, or modifies a parts tree without using a subletter. The star (*) is my own way of noting differences between these trees (e.g, the short span and long span Ju87 wings). The star is never found on the parts tree or instruction sheet!

Original tooling, replaced by improved tooling which changed shapes of cowl and other areas, these early kits still look very much like 109s, have nice engraved panel lines, include bomb, rack, and belly tank, and go together well. J001/09001 has E-3 canopy only, J002/09002 has E-4/7 canopy only, J003/09003 is same as J002/09002 but includes a Trop filter (no standard intake), and J004/09004 does E-3 or E-4/7 with both canopies included plus Galland’s telescopic gunsight and windscreen to fit it (but no Trop filter).

Improved tooling, mainly in shape of nose, all kits include centerline rack and 250kg bomb.
Bf-109E-3: 09108, 09164, 09269, 09601, and 09624 build E-3 only. 09369 and 09482 are similar but includes resin plugs to allow modeler to sand off wing cannon bulges to build the E-1.
Bf-109E-4/7: 09109, 09261, 09563, 09671, and 09823 build E-4/7 only. Identical 09879 also includes a resin figure of Adolf Galland. 09326 and 09861 are similar but includes resin wing and intake parts to build the T version. 09110, 09643, and similar 09892 are the only E-4/7 kits that includes a Trop filter! RG 4572 is almost identical to 09110, has the Trop filter but lacks the photoetched grilles and headrest armor.
Bf-109E-3/4/7: 09111, 9172, 09183, and 09746 will do both an E-3 or E-4/7 (but have no Trop filter). 09733 adds a resin antenna housing to also build a night fighter version.

many parts, (from P-38 kits) for 165 gallon |
20 different parts trees, and one of the most complicated set of boxings of all Hasegawa’s families. There are four different fuselage trees, all lettered A, which have lower case subletters for each fuselage half. Aaa is short tail G-6/14 with cannon breech bulges, Abb is tall tail G-6/14 with cannon breech bulges, Afe is G-10 with bulged cowl, and Ahg is K-4 with bulged cowl.
The basic early G-6 with shorter tail (always with Trop
parts) is found in identical 09147, 09256, 09266, 09287, 09313, 09363, and
09627. 09401, 09434, 09730, 09739,
and 09785 are identical but also include a new later G-6 pressed MG insert cowl
top. 09245 and 09263 are identical
but also include an Erla haube canopy.
09497 and 09838 are identical but also include the new later G-6 pressed
MG insert cowl top and a standard canopy as well as the Erla haube.
09324 also includes metal and etch parts for underwing WGr21 21cm rockets
(now included in plastic in the German WW II accessories set). 09915 is
identical to 09147 et al and also includes three new resin parts and the B tree
from X48-9 to build one of Herman Graf’s machines with 21cm underwing rockets.
09303 and 09559 G-4s, and 09588 and 09853 G-2s are based on
the basic early G-6 kit, with correct resin early cowl top and wheels included.
Now it gets much trickier. 09375 does a short tail G-14 by starting with basic G-6 and also including late cockpit parts, Erla haube canopy, and late stabilizers. 09148 tall tail G-14 evolves from 09375 by including a tall-tailed fuselage with bumps (only). 09249 evolves again into a tall tail G-14 based on 09148 but without standard canopy and later cockpit parts. Tall tail G-14 09445 is identical to 09249, also has late stabilizers and later pressed MG insert cowl top. Are you with me so far?
Last but not least, the G-10/K-4 kits all include the appropriate later bulged cowl tall-tailed fuselage, later stabs, and larger wheels and covers. 09064 and identical 09468 G-10s have a G-10 fuselage and windscreen only. 09569, 09599, 09742, and 09771 G-10s, and also 09865 G-14/AS also include the smaller wing wheel well bulges and wheels. 09063, 09330, 09417, and 09534 K-4s include a K-4 windscreen instead, and later cockpit parts and additional small outer gear doors. 09511 is unusual, based on 09064 but has only the smaller wheels and wing bulges, a metal oblique cannon barrel, and the P-38 kit Q tree to provide a 165 gallon drop tank!

Another extensive family of versions, based on 22 different
parts trees or parts sets!
Note: Ju87 wings are trees A and B whether they are short or long span.
Also,
the Ju87B/R kits can come with regular air intake, trop air intake, or both, and
the instructions and parts tree don’t always match on this item!
I’ve chosen to go by the actual part(s) provided in the kit.
Ju87B: 09113, 09116, 09188, and 09276 are basic B-2 with standard engine air intake only. 09171 is a B-2 that includes resin skis. 09197 is a B-2 that includes turned metal stabo fuse extenders. 52505 is the standard B-2 with Jaguar resin pilot and mechanic. RG 4564 is a basic B-2 with both standard and trop engine air intakes.
Ju87R: 9115 and 09253 are R-2s, include drop tanks and come with larger tropical engine air intake only. 09174 R-2 includes drop tanks but has standard engine air intake only. PM 5975, 09584, and 09673 may be the best early Stuka kits, as these boxings include drop tanks and both types of air intakes. 09899 is identical to these last three and includes 6 resin parts to build the carrier-based Ju87C version.
Ju87D short wing: 09285 does the later short winged D-1/D-3. 09307and 09348 are D-4s, basically are 09285 plus B/R spats, drop tanks, and resin torpedo and pylon; so these can build a D-1 or D-3! 09546 is 09285 with the addition of exhaust flame suppressors. 09370 does a G-1 by modifying 09285 with addition of 37 mm under wing cannon pods, but minus bombs and pylons.
Ju87D long wing: 09053 and 09704 build a long winged D-5. 09279 adds metal night fighter exhausts to 09053 to become a D-8. 09054 builds a G-2 by modifying 09053 with addition of 37 mm under wing cannon pods, minus the bombs and pylons. 51038 is based on 09054 plus resin and brass parts for super-detailed under wing cannon.
