Hi, I’m Tony Hodun, and this is one of five tables of
Hasegawa 1/48 kit listings I’ve developed to aid you as a modeler or collector
in finding the right kit to build the version you want, to fill the gaps in your
collection, or to find the parts you need.
This page covers Jet Aircraft and Helicopters, Part 1, and covers the
most modern
Note: These tables are based on the actual parts in the kit, not the instructions sheets! Hasegawa sometimes includes older instructions in newer kit boxings, but newer revisions of parts trees, so the two don’t always match!
Note: The starred tree letters (e.g. D*) are my own way of differentiating between trees where Hasegawa re-uses the same letter for two different sets of parts, modifies or updates parts, or adds/deletes an optional part; the star will not be found on the actual parts tree. The lower case tree letters (e.g., the different A-4 or F-104 fuselage trees) typically have an extra tab with the subletter on the parts tree.
I want to especially thank David W. Aungst for his awesome contributions, as he willingly took the time to provide a huge amount of the data below, including much of the original parts tree information. He paved the way for me and for others to build on this table, so thank him if you were helped by this table.
Another huge contributor I want to especially thank is Greg
Feiser; his web pages on the F-16 include detailed information on the F-16
Fighting Falcon and on scale models in every scale, and his Hasegawa 1/48 pages
provided much additional information for the improved F-16 kits section of my
tables! You can also use his notes
to modify and correct these kits to build more accurate F-16 versions. Check out
his site at:
http://www.habu2.net/vipers
My thanks to my repeat contributors James Arguello, Michael Benolkin, Christian Blachford, Neils Christian Boman, Stefan Buysse, Jason Cheah, Kev Chenney (many times!), Jim Dick, Julien Dixon, Björn Dol, Marc Dupuy, Mike Franklin, Carsten Götze, John Macklin, Andy Mullen, Ken Pawlowski, Rafael Rodriguez, Greg Scoumis, Marko Trnski, Ryan Turgeon, Mike Vorrasi, Martin van Wyk, and Ron Young, and also to Gary (no last name given), Juan Ansari, Jose Barata, Andreas Beck, Jim Bonanni, Thomas Brown, Martin Burkey, Carl Ching, Hans Datema, Fernando Jose Diaz de Sousa, Gary Edwards, Art Johnsons, Chris Kerns, Arno Kok, Ray Lloyd, Marc de Niverville, Jim Obermeyer, Bosse Persson, Ray (no last name provided), Corey Ransom, Rafael Rodriguez, Kevin Seniuk, John Smith, Kevin Smythers, Dan Suria, Joe Taylor, and Woody Yeung for their helpful input!

I find this to be the most complicated 1/48 Hasegawa kit family of them all, as there have been so many new trees added and so many old trees modified over its history. Over time some of the earlier tooling was changed to engraved, some times parts have been added to trees, some trees have had parts added, some times only some of the parts on a tree are revised. The more recent the kit issue the more likely you’ll get the latest tooling. This is even true of early and late basic kit numbers, not just the special issues. If the box is open, you may want to check for engraved versus raised panel lines on the F-4J kits. The F-4C/D and F-4B/N kits still only come with raised panel lines as of 2006. Most recently, the RF-4 family was added, building on previous tooling by adding nine new parts trees (trees N, Q, T, U, V*, W, X, Y, and Z). This section is definitely still a work in progress!

Some generalizations that may help:
Earlier kits had raised panel lines on fuselage, wings, and horizontal tails (F-4B/N, F-4J, F-4C/D from the start). The A tree is the appropriate fuselage (B/N, C/D, or J); later engraved fuselages are found on tree J, N, or S.
Later kits have fuselage, wings, and horizontal tails with engraved panel lines, and these are on parts trees with new letters (F-4E, F-4EJ/KAI, F-4F, F-4G, F-4S from the start). Improved engraved F-4J kits have been issued. No engraved F-4C/D or F-4B/N tooling has been issued yet.
Panel lines on cockpit and landing gear trees match the larger parts (raised early, engraved later).
In all kits to date though, the E tree (external fuel tanks), F tree (multi part canopy/clear parts), and G or H trees (weapons, pylons, and on earlier kits, raised panel line horizontal tails) are always raised scribing.
Engraved panel line wings have evolved; early P002, P003, P004, and P007 had basic engraved wings, wings on all later kits have added naval details (must remove for non-naval versions) and inserts where catapult bridle hooks are located.
Early kits had multipiece clear canopy parts. Later kits, starting with 07200 series, included an additional one piece clear canopy for those who preferred to close the hoods. Newer kits seem to revert back to the multipiece canopy only.
Bottom line: the raised panel kits build up as nicely as the engraved ones, don’t be put off by this.
F-4C/D Raised: P6 builds an F-4C/D with raised panel lines;
07106 and 09790 are identical but also include an F-15 style fuel tank.
F-4B/N Raised: 1207 and P5 build an F-4B/N with raised panel lines, may have early or later multi-piece canopy clear parts tree. 07105, 09662, 09787, 09878, and 09900 are identical and come with the later multi-piece canopy clear parts tree. 07210 is identical to 07105 and also includes a one-piece canopy. 09581 is identical, also includes raised panel line unslotted horizontal tails.
F-4J Raised: P1 and identical 1216 build an F-4J with raised panel lines. 51002 and 51004 are the same as P1 with the addition of etched cockpit/canopy parts, white metal landing gear and wheels, vinyl tires, and vinyl wire.
F-4J Engraved: 07101 builds an F-4J with engraved panel lines. 51029 is based on 07101, also includes all the same super detail parts as 51002. Need help confirming which versions of parts trees are included in these two kits. 07206 includes modified D and E trees with corrected/engraved parts, wings and clear tree have added details, also includes a one-piece canopy. 09509, 09596, 09632, and 09727 are similar to 07206, have multipiece canopy only. 09403 is similar to 07206, has multipiece canopy only, and includes resin afterburner nozzles. 09353 is similar to 07206, has multipiece canopy only, includes a different under nose IR fairing. 09709 and 09778 are similar to 07206 without the one piece canopy, except they include the D tree as modified for the F-4S kits, as does the latest reboxing of 07101. Need help confirming which versions of parts trees are included in 09353. ADD 09392 once resolved.
F-4S Engraved: 51010 was the first F-4S issue, is similar to 07101, but includes slatted wings instead of non-slatted, and also etched parts for cockpit/canopies and for lower wing reinforcement plates, plus white metal landing gear and wheels, vinyl tires, and vinyl wire. A number of parts on the D and E trees were modified to be correct for the F-4J/S, and the added clear details were also included in 51010. 09376, 09586, 09762, and 09807 have identical plastic to 51010 except they do not include white metal landing gear and wheels, vinyl tires, or vinyl wire. 07077 is similar to these last two, but also includes a one piece canopy.
F-4E Engraved: P3 builds an F-4E with raised panel lines and all trees are the most basic original versions. 07103 includes slatted wings, the newer clear tree and also include an F-15 style fuel tank. 09566 comes with unslatted wings with naval details, engraved panel line slotted horizontal tails, the multi piece canopy tree includes the added clear details, also comes with F-15 style drop tank and a metal IDF F-4 fixed IFR probe.
07208 and 09859 come with slatted wings with naval details, engraved panel line slotted horizontal tails, the multi piece canopy tree includes the added clear details, also comes with F-15 style drop tank and a one piece clear canopy. 09805 is identical to 07208 and also includes a resin dorsal fairing. 09448 is identical to 07208 except it does not include the one-piece canopy.
PM 5978 comes
with unslatted wings (no naval details), raised panel line slotted horizontal
tails, the multi piece canopy tree includes the added clear details, also comes
with the one piece canopy. This kit is curiously identical to the recent “non-
KAI” F-4EJ kit issues (with a one piece canopy thrown in).
09361 and identical 09398 are
almost identical to PM 5978, but include the newer clear multi-piece canopy
tree.
F-4F Engraved:
P7 is based on F-4E P3 but curiously comes with raised
panel line horizontal tails. 09386 and RG 04522 include engraved fuselage, nose,
and slatted wing with additional naval details, additional clear details, but
still come with raised panel line unslotted horizontal tails.
09714 and 09734 are similar to these two but have the wing that does not
include the additional naval details.
F-4G Engraved: P4 is based on F-4E P3 with slatted wings (later kits’ wings have the added details) but has an F-4G nose instead, modified fuselage (tail antenna housing) and includes a new tree with weapons (AGM-45 and AGM-78) and correct rear instrument panel. 07104 and 09672 are identical to P4 but also include an F-15 style fuel tank. 07209 is similar to 07104 and also includes a one-piece canopy.
F-4EJ Engraved: F-4EJ 07002 is based on F-4E P3, but have different (raised panel line) slotted horizontal tails, has engraved non-slatted wings, and lack AIM-9s/pylons, has all early trees except the revised clear parts tree; 07002X is identical. 51517 may be identical, or may include some of the newer trees. Need help confirming which versions of parts trees are included in kit 51517. 09617 and 09622 include engraved fuselage, nose, and non-slatted wing w/naval details, added clear details, but have raised panel line slotted horizontal tails. These latter kits are identical to the Pro Modeler F-4E, thus you can build an earlier F-4E with the parts included.
F-4EJ/KAI Engraved: F-4EJ KAI 07061 is based on 07002 with a new HUD, modified fuselage, an F-15 style fuel tank, and modified non-slatted wings with naval details. Need help confirming which versions of parts trees are included.
51604, 09380 and 09556 are based on the P003 F-4E, include revised wings and fuselage with KAI version RWRs, revised clear tree with HUD, and F-15 style centerline drop tank. 07207 is identical but does it include a one-piece canopy? ...need help confirming this.
Recce F-4s Engraved: Hasegawa is finally producing recon Rhinos!
RF-4B: 07231, 09652,
and 09839 have both early and later noses and later bulged wings, so only build
one of the last 12 USMC RF-4Bs. I’m
told the early F-4B/N wing mates up with the fuselage nicely (thank you, Ken!),
so a kitbash may be feasible to build the earlier Marine recce Rhinos.
RF-4C: 09557
builds the RF-4C with either the original or later camera nose, 09629 includes
only the original camera nose.
RF-4E: 07230 and identical 09574 build the JASDF RF-4E with later rounded camera nose only. 09612 and 09621 are almost identical to these, but lack the F-15 style centerline drop tank. 09590, 09696, and 09883 build Luftwaffe & Hellenic RF-4Es with early stepped camera nose only. 09685 is similar to 09590, also includes the later lower nose and a metal IDF style refueling probe. Unique 09537 builds an RF-4EJ KAI, which is a JASDF F-4EJ upgraded to carry various centerline recce pods; the kit is identical to 09380/09556 minus the F-15 drop tank, and includes parts to build any of the three sensor pods used.
F-4s NEED INFO: Complete kits: 1210, 1211 (both are Minicraft boxings), 07204, 07211, 09328, 09338, 09338 recent reissue with mods, 09383, 09641, 09665, 09934, 51029.
Some parts trees: 07101, 07207, 07061, 09353.
RF-4s NEED INFO: Complete kits: 09923.

The British Phantom II was equipped with Rolls Royce Spey engines, which were physically bigger than the J79 and required a bigger fuselage. Nose cone, wings, and other areas also differed. These kits actually only “share” a few parts trees with J79 powered Rhinos (trees D, E, and F, and each has some modifications form the original tree), so are a subfamily unto themselves. All include white metal wheels and vinyl tires, except the Revell Germany boxing, and all have engraved panel lines. I have added the ‘plus’ to the tree letters to indicate they are unique to British Phantoms; it is not on the parts trees.

Mk. 1 version. 51008 is based on
07015 but includes etched parts for cockpit and canopy and vinyl wire, and
deletes the standard nose cone.
07017, 09331, 51543, and 09831 are identical and build the RAF FG Mk. 1 version,
have the standard nose cone only. Early
boxings of 07015 may not include the alternate nose cone.
07016, 09414, and 09602 build the RAF FGR Mk. 2 version only. 51009 is based on 07016 but has etched parts for cockpit and canopy, and vinyl wire. RG 04588 is similar but does not have the white metal wheels and vinyl tires.

Original fuselage tree is A, the later A* version includes 4 added F-15J/DJ details. Newer kits or newer issues of older numbers sometimes have the A* tree, instructions may still show the older A tree.
Original C tree includes a pair of AIM-9 Sidewinders. Later C was converted to Ca, the same tree with the subletter added on a tab; this differentiates it from the Cb version, which was modified further to include a pair of JASDF AAM-3s instead of the AIM-9s. The JASDF F-15Js (and possibly DJs) are both AIM-9 and AAM-3 capable. Each Eagle kit has a pair of either tree C (AIM-9), Ca (AIM-9), or Cb (AAM-3).
Original Single Seaters: 07009 and 07010 are identical and include parts to build either a single seat F-15C or JASDF F-15J with AIM-9 Sidewinders. 51001 is the same plastic as 07009/07010 but also includes cast white metal landing gear, a large set of photoetched parts, clear HUD, and featherless exhaust nozzles. 51011 is based on 51001 but also includes an ASAT missile and unique pylon.
Newer Single Seaters: 07079 and 07084 are almost identical to the original C and J kits, include AIM-9s, come with the newer fuselage tree. 07249, 09340, 09471, 09492, and 09591 come with newer fuselage tree, AIM-9s, and also include featherless exhaust nozzles and full set of etched parts and clear HUD; 09808 is the same without the clear sheet for the later HUD. 09850 is identical to 09808 and also includes an ASAT missile and pylon. 09420 is identical to these last plus includes a nose instrument probe, instructions show how to backdate the speed brake. 07205 is similar to 07079 but comes with Japanese AAM-3 missiles. 09449 is similar to 07205, also include featherless exhaust nozzles and full set of etched parts and clear HUD.
Newer 2 in 1 kits:
07251 includes all the newer parts necessary to build either a single seat
F-15J or a two-seat F-15DJ and comes with Japanese AAM-3 missiles.
Original Two Seaters: 07011 includes parts to build either
a two seat F-15D or JASDF F-15DJ with AIM-9s.
51610 is based on 07011 but also includes featherless exhaust nozzles,
clear HUD, and etched parts.
Newer Two Seaters:
09367 has newer fuselage tree, is otherwise identical to 07011,
instructions show how to backdate the speed brake to the original smaller size.
09451, and 09620 are based on 09367 but also include featherless exhaust
nozzles and full set of etched parts and clear sheet for the HUD. 09832 and
09896 is identical to 09451/09620, lack the clear sheet for the HUD (uses
injected clear HUD parts).
“Strike” Eagles: These are based on the original two-seater kit. 07008 is not quite what it seems to be. The kit is based on 07011 F-15D, and includes early FAST packs (which don’t have production stub pylons), six correct F-15 MERs and a slew of Mk 20 Rockeye bombs. It has the large production speed brake of the F-15D, and some other differences, so it really doesn’t build an accurate F-15 Strike Eagle demonstrator or production F-15E Strike Eagle, even if it does fit well and look good when complete. And note that 07021, 07022, and 07248 are basically kit 07008 with featherless exhaust nozzles, photo etch, and LANTIRN pods added, so the same comments apply. Unfortunately, these kits will only accurately build an F-15D or DJ (one of the reasons I got into this kit table business!).

I must especially thank Greg Feiser; his web pages on the
F-16 include detailed information on the F-16 Fighting Falcon and on scale
models in all scales, and his Hasegawa 1/48 pages provided much additional
information for the F-16 kits section of my tables!
You can also use his notes to modify and correct these kits to build more
accurate F-16 versions. Check out his site at:
http://www.habu2.net/vipers
F-16A:
The very first kits were 1217 and 06101 (first issue); both
build a basic F-16A Block 15, includes drop tanks and missiles, and tinted
canopy; gun vent, ECS vent, and ammo door are molded into the fuselage parts.
06102 (first) is almost identical but lacks the stores tree.
F-16A Plus:
06101 (second issue) builds a basic F-16A Block 15 or 20 (A
plus), includes drop tanks and missiles, and both clear and tinted canopies;
later style gun vent, different ECS vent, and ammo door are molded into the
fuselage parts. Note: This fuselage
tree is only used on 06101 (second) and 06103 F-16C.
F-16A Plus (no parabrake housing):
06101 (third issue) does a basic F-16A Block 15 or 20 (A
plus), includes drop tanks and missiles, and both clear and tinted canopies;
from this point on fuselage allows for separate gun vent, ammo door, and ECS
vent, and those parts plus longer afterburner interior are included.
06102 (second) is almost identical but lacks the stores tree.
09487 and 09792 are based on 06101 (third), but have clear canopy only.
06161 is based on 06101 (third) with addition of later gun ports/fuselage
vents, has tinted canopy only.
F-16A Plus (with parabrake housing):
The earliest two kits, 06109 and 51601, are based on 06101
(third), but have tinted canopy only, include the longer afterburner interior,
and the tail with parabrake housing (parts tree Q).
The later kits 06162, 06163, 06166, 09332, and 09387 are based on 06101
(third), have tinted and clear canopies, include the longer afterburner
interior, and the tail with parabrake housing (parts tree S, identical to Q).
09545 is based on this last group, has clear canopy only, includes F-16C NLG
landing lights.
F-16B Plus:
06105 and identical 06168 include a different mix of parts
to build a basic F-16B Block 15 or 20 (B plus), includes drop tanks and
missiles, clear canopies; the fuselage allows for separate gun vent, ammo door,
and ECS vent, and those parts plus longer afterburner interior and later gun
vent are included.
F-16C Block 25:
06103 is similar to the early F-16A kits but includes the
tail with larger base and a revised instrument panel to do an F-16C Block 25.
The later style gun vent, different ECS vent, and ammo door are molded
into the fuselage parts. Note: This
fuselage tree is only used on 06101 (second) and 06103 F-16C.
F-16C Block 30(“Small Mouth”)/32:
06104 and identical 06164, 51532, 09319, 09378, and 09616
are based on 06103 but include modified vertical tail of Block 30/32, and parts
for GE engine of the Block 30, also has the P&W engine of Block 32, but does not
include the larger engine intake of later Block 30 or small leading edge RWR
pods of the Block 30/32; these build a Block 32 or early small-mouthed Block 30
without those leading edge RWR fittings, and can be backdated to a Block 25.
06108 is based on these kits with the addition of LANTIRN pods.
Both issues of 06165 are based on these kits but do not include the
stores tree. 06107 F-16N is based on
06165 but includes an ACMI pod and ECM antennae.
F-16D Block 30(“Small Mouth”)/32:
06106 and 09406 are based on 06104 (have GE and P&W engine
parts) with two seat fuselage and othere necessary parts to do a two seater,
correctly build F-16D Block 25, Block 32, or early small mouth Block 30 without
leading edge RWRs.
F-16C Block 40/42/50/52 (and “Big Mouth” Block 30s):
With kit 06110, Hasegawa started what I call their “second
generation” of 1/48 Viper kits.
06110 F-16CJ and identical 07232, 09382, 09421, and 09438 are based on 06104,
but have three new trees which include larger intake, leading edge RWR parts,
larger tire/wheel/gear/bulged doors appropriate for Block 40/42/50/52 Vipers,
square nose gear door landing lights, and newer type wingtip missile rails and
AIM-120s, and also has a tree of AGM-88 HARMS, launch rails, and ATHS. 09474 and
09811 are based on 06110 but lack the Wild Weasel parts (tree V).
09848 is based on 06110 but includes LANTIRN parts and some new antennae
and lacks the Wild Weasel parts and newer style landing lights.
09869 is based on 06110 but includes LANTIRN parts and new
stiffening plates
09894 is based on 06110 but includes some new antennae and lacks the
Wild Weasel parts, AIM-120 tree, and AIM-9/drop tanks parts.
09397 is based on 06110 but lacks the
Wild Weasel parts (tree V) and the NLG landing lights. 09368 and identical 09826
are based on 06110 but lack the tree with HARMs and ATHS, instead have trees C
and Z from Weapons Set D (X48-8) with both LANTIRN pods and their pylons and
optics. 09766 is almost identical to
09368/09826, it lacks only the later landing lights.
These recent kits are the most accurate choices to build F-16C/Ds from
Blocks 30/32 or 50/52 Fighting Falcon.
All can be built as Block 40/42 if the HUD is corrected; see Greg
Feiser’s web pages fpr details. A
quick way to tell that a kit has the new parts is that these issues come in a
larger sized box than the earlier F-16s.
F-16D Block 40/42/50/52 (and “Big Mouth” Block 30s):
09352 is based on 06106 F-16D with all the same new parts as 06110, can build Block 30/32/50/52, and also Block 40/42 if HUD is corrected. 09466 is similar to 09352, lacks the Wild Weasel parts, includes resin dorsal avionics hump. 09803 is also similar to 09352, lacks the Wild Weasel parts, and includes resin dorsal avionics hump CFTs, and other details.
Latest F-16 Single and Two Seaters:
These kits use parts from a new series of trees to build
some of the latest two seat versions, typically with dorsal spines and modern
electronics fit.
07244 builds a recent dorsal spine equipped Block 60 F-16F. 09857 builds a dorsal spine equipped Israeli F-16I. 09906 builds a recent dorsal spine equipped Block 52 F-16D. 09932 builds an F-16E with enlarged vertical fin base.
Note:
It has just been discovered that some (though not all) of the recently
produced F-16A and F-16C kits (at least since 07232 and from the 09400s up)
include a revised clear parts tree E that has a recently added part, part E7,
which is unidentified and not used in any kits catalogued to date.
I will be revising listings to show the presence of this tree as I get
reports of it; it has been designated Ec**.
E7 looks like a type of fin tip light fixture.
